Christmas Training Camp

This year’s annual  LSCR Christmas training camp was an enormous success for all involved, with an excellent turn out including representatives from both the novice and senior squads. The week started out on the Trent with Becs proving  rather spectacularly that flip flops don’t work in mud. We remained high spirited despite the poor weather and got a good session in.  Unfortunately Sunday had other plans for us and called for a quick rethink by Mitch and Dan due to the dangerous conditions on the Trent, in the form of large, fast moving logs calling right of way. LSRC :- Bristol Head (November 22nd 2008)

After much deliberation over several cups of coffee and a ton of biscuits at the ever famous BUCS meeting, it was decided that Loughborough Students would represent themselves at The UBBC Head race in November in order to kick-start our racing schedule. On a cold November morning, 30 Loughborough boys and girls embarked on a banter-filled coach journey to the far west of the UK. With such an early start (5am!) many saw it fit to catch up on lost sleep, except for Andy Whale who proceeded to play hide and Seek with me in the toilets of a service station just shy of Bristol City. After hounding the wrong cubicle in the gents in an attempt to find Andy, I quickly retreated to the coach to find that Andy had been hiding in the coach all along. The look of sheer horror on the innocent local’s face in the gents stayed fresh in the memory for the duration of the journey… thanks Andy! Read more…

Message from Tom

This is an important email for those of you novices and those that are not currently memebers of the ARA.

In order for you to be able to race for the club you must be affiliated as a member of the ARA. Its an easy online process that only takes you 5 minutes, but in order to race for the club you must complete this and pay a small fee which provides you with insurance, a monthly magazine called Rowing and Regatta and the ability to race at 99% of the countries regattas (without it you can not race!).

This is the link below to the page where you need to sign up:

http://www.oara.org.uk/Gateway/Signup/Register.aspx

I can not stress how important this is, I cannot make race entries for you if you have not signed up and that may lead to your crew not being entered in a race!

Tom.

Women’s Henley 2008

Lightweight pair win at Henley Women’s Regatta

A Loughborough duo have helped  the University rowing club to its best ever result with a winning performance at the Henley Women’s Regatta.

Sports Scholar Laurien Pepper and rowing partner Ruth Hobson won two races on the way to the elite lightweight pair final where they easily beat Kingston Rowing Club to take the Parkside Trophy.

The pair achieved the fastest time of the field in the first round, clocking 6.25 minutes in choppy conditions against the current and into a headwind.
